This journey combines visiting Do temple Dinh Bang village in Bac Ninh province and Bat Trang pottery village whilst cycling along Red River bank and tranquil villages to observe daily life of local people.
On the left bank of Hong river and about 10 km from Hanoi in East (in Gia Lam District, Hanoi), there situated a pottery village, which is the most famous and long-standing pottery village in Vietnam for its name of Bat Trang. Up to present, Ba Trang Pottery Village has still been operating and developing ceaselessly.
With Vietnamese, the countryside is the most peaceful place evoking the peasants’ simple lives, the image of bamboo trees, communal houses, and banyan trees, the ferries and traditional villages such as Bat Trang pottery village, Dong Ho folk painting village, Dong Ky carpentry village etc.... Bat Trang, a small village in the north of Vietnam, is about 13 kilometers south east of Hanoi center, on the other side of Chuong Duong bridge. Bat Trang ceramic village: The most ancient and famous pottery village of Vietnam, continues to work today and is constantly developing. There are various kinds of pottery, for example jade enamel (under the Ly-Tran Dynasties), brown flower or brown enamel (under the late Tran to early Le Dynasties), cracked enamel (under the late Le Dynasty) and royal blue enamelled items (under the late Le to Nguyen Dynasties).
Being recognized as the country’s cultural historic relic, But Thap Pagoda is not only an important place for pilgrims but also a tourist attraction. The pagoda was built under the dynasty of King Tran Thanh Tong (1258-1278) and rebuilt in 1647 in the Le Dynasty. Dong Ho Village is famous for its folk paintings drawn by craftsmen of Dong Ho village in Bac Ninh province. They are drawn on do paper with natural colours taken from half-baked bricks, tree leaves, powder of grinded burned tree – roots and back- ground made from a mixture of lime
